Davidson Loehr

Davidson Loehr has been a Renaissance Man—or just a guy who never grew up. Professional musician, graduate of the Army’s best NCO academy and artillery Officer Candidate School. When he arrived in Vietnam, he was made the Vietnam Entertainment Officer, working with all the USO shows. After a few months, he felt cowardly and ashamed because all his OCS classmates were serving in combat units. So, he arranged another interview—he interviewed well—and spent his final seven months as a combat photographer and press officer. His 43 months in the Army were life-changing and character-forming. He pretty much did the Army his way, until Vietnam did him its way.

After returning from Vietnam and being released from active duty, he was a bit lost for over a decade, for reasons that may become clear. He has said that had he not lived these things, he probably wouldn’t believe them. A dozen years after coming home, he entered graduate school and earned an M.A. in “Methods of studying religion”, and a Ph.D. in theology, philosophy of religion, philosophy of science, and Wittgenstein’s “language philosophy” from the University of Chicago, before serving as a Unitarian minister for 23 years. Retiring in 2009, he moved to Weaverville, North Carolina in 2016, where he still lives.

America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher

As Garrison Keillor wrote in Home Grown Democrat, gadfly preacher, Loehr, puts plain sense into plain language.

America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher

This is among the best, and also among the most distressing and depressing books I have ever read on what's wrong with America today.

America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher

This book is over 10 years old and it is almost as fresh as it was when I read it back when it was first published. I suggested this book to a highly educated friend and his comments are the same as mine.

America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher

I purchased this book for a friend, a retired Unitarian minister who knew the author. He was most pleased with the book.

America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher

I first heard Davidson speak when he was the interim minister at Unity-Unitarian church in St Paul. My wife and I were looking for (and found) a great community there, due in no small part to Mr Loehr's sermons.

America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher

This book America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher is intelligently written and forces one to think about the elements that provide the foundation of thought.

A. Betsinger

America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher

This is an amazing book with very clear, concise, and compelling messages (say that 10 times fast). It has made me think twice about the way I live my life even though I consider myself to be a liberal.

Thomas R. Benson

America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher

With the minimum of words, Rev. Loehr has managed to describe such topics as fascism in America in a way that gives urgency for decent people to stand and be counted. The barbarians within our own culture are making their move.

Anthony Di Novi

America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher

Loehr provides clarity in a time when confusion and duplicity seem to be the weapons of choice by those that are presently waging war on our cultural, religious and political system.
